ABOUT US
Giving orphans of Lower Michigan something to do on weekends since we started doing this
Our Mission
The Detroit Bears Baseball for Orphans League of Lower Michigan exists because someone had to do something. We believe every child deserves to stand in a field squinting into the sun while a baseball hurtles toward their face. That's not a threat — that's baseball. It builds character. Or at least a good excuse to wear a helmet.
Meet the Coach
Our head coach has dedicated his life to baseball and also to finding people. Mostly he finds them on baseball fields, which is convenient. He once scouted a player by watching him eat a hot dog with 'real commitment.' He has a 73% success rate at remembering player names. The other 27% he just points and says 'hey, kid.'
"Every kid deserves a home base. Also a batting helmet. Mostly the helmet."
Our Values
Teamwork
We play as one. One confused, snack-motivated unit moving vaguely toward victory.
Integrity
We don't argue with umpires. We respectfully disagree with umpires. There is a difference. The coach is still learning it.
Opportunity
No child should be denied the chance to get beaned by a curveball regardless of their background.
Family
The Bears are a family. A loud, competitive family that argues about batting order. Just like a real family but with more pine tar.
